Earthquake is the latest release from folk-inspired music trio LÓN. The frontman is none other than Valdimar Guðmundsson of the Icelandic rock band Valdimar. The soft folk music vibe of the song takes you back to an older world. This is because of the acoustic setup, and the background vocalizations which serve as another production element on the song.
LÓN is a musician trio born out of the pandemic and lockdown situation that explores the Americana style of folk music. Iceland’s most popular and respected artists Valdimar Guðmundsson, Ásgeir Aðalsteinsson, and Ómar Guðjónsso were long-time friends. And now they are also the founders of LÓN. Collectively, they have over half a century of experience in the music industry, and a handful of degrees in music. Producing and recording in Ómar’s studio garage, or in a cabin by Iceland’s biggest lake Þingvallavatn, their music has been recorded with as much heart as it holds in its notes.
Earthquake is a gentle, contemplative song about the singer’s innermost thoughts. He wonders if he should read some out loud, but does that change anything? Are humans anything more than memory? He does not have answers, but he knows that the feelings he is present in are certain. All in all, to me Earthquake is a mellower, more thought-provoking version of Somewhere Over the Rainbow, and I can play it on repeat all day when the time is right.
