Toxic Cities is the newest release from Moon and Aries, and it takes the listener on an interesting, dystopian journey. While the mood is set by the synthpop production and 80s inspired rhythm and melodies, the lyrics are a futuristic tale of love. The song is set in a place where a corrupted society allows for terror and toxicity in the streets. And the singer is alone in this lawless maze of madness.
Moon and Aries might sound like something to do with the Zodiac — it’s anything but! This two member music project is often dubbed the galactic duo with Moon (Jordana) and Aries (Tom) being on two different continents altogether. Jordana Moon is based out of Canada, and Tom Aries lives in Germany. However, the two musicians have found their perfect inspiration working together. They have the same taste in music, movies, and it seems even self expression. Creating retro pop magic, they combine synth pop and hop trap. The result is something that is comfortingly familiar, and fresh and thought provoking — all at once.
The song Toxic Cities explores a futuristic society which is borne of the collapse of the broken systems of today. Further, the contrast posed by an anticipatory synth rhythm is what sets it apart. As if it is a rock opera, but for synth-pop and its impact on music for the time to come.
