This confusion is more of a braindead-ness that has seeped into all of our lives in the last two years. The trauma and loss have been so mammoth that we haven’t had a chance to reflect.
And as I do reflect now, I realize we are a generation that is cooped up and contained with bouts of debilitating sadness. In the words of Alain de Botton, “Melancholy is a negotiation with the tragic.” And there is something ironic about how this contemporary melancholia finds its abode in a beautifully-crafted contemporary rock tune.
By 2022 is a song that invites change. If the nature of the universe is transient, then something new has to be borne right about now from the depths of this placidness. Furthermore, the musician, and vocalist at the helm of this song is Tom Tikka. I like him for his name, but I happen to love him for his musical sensibility. He exploits his unrelenting love for the craft and sonic genius to create By 2022. And it shouldn’t be a surprise that it is a banger, coming from a lifelong student of music with so much experience on his belt. The good-looking guitar man is all that and more. He has released three critically-acclaimed EPs since April 2020, and it seems his shotgun is still fully loaded.
