About the Artist
At just 17, Canadian singer-songwriter Becca Stefanson makes her recording debut with Going Forward, Looking Back, a six-track EP released through her independent label, Becca-Boo Records, on April 9, 2026. Blending folk, country, and indie-folk influences, the six-track EP talks about growth, memory, and the experiences that shape who we become. Recorded, produced, and mixed by her father, Todd Stefanson, the release captures an artist taking her first confident steps and a songwriting journey rooted in honesty and reflection.

The EP
No Strings Attached opens the EP on bright, gentle acoustics. It sounds like something you’d put on when you’re trying to stay strong enough not to cry. “The time I thought we had got up and stabbed me in the back… no strings attached is what you said,” captures the shock of realizing somebody never felt as deeply as you did, while the vulnerability in the vocals makes that heartbreak more real. Next, Memories feels warmer and softer, moving at the slow pace of nostalgia, over the small things left behind after a relationship ends. “These, these are the memories, the good, the good, bad and uglies,” turns ordinary moments into emotional keepsakes, how even the simplest objects can carry far more weight than they should.
After that, Mr. Mailman is more upbeat, with a light pop bounce. Beneath that brighter sound, the track talks about waiting for a message that never comes. Using the image of a letter that never arrives, the melody and lyrics paint the frustration of unanswered feelings and the silence that follows. Then, How I Feel slows everything down with a heavy, finger-picked melody. “Your silhouette staring back at me… longing for something that no longer feels within reach,” paints distance almost like another person standing in the room. The silence between two people feels just as important as the words themselves.

Soon after, Love Song becomes the emotional centre of the EP. The melody is comforting, like watching the sun slowly come up after a long night. “I wanna breathe the air you breathe… the greatest three words on the tip of our tongues,” is a quiet excitement of finally letting your guard down, like slowly reaching for somebody’s hand because you finally believe they’ll hold yours back. Lastly, Treasure leans into folk influences and closes the EP on its most hopeful note. “I’ve searched high and low… I found treasure, treasure in your eyes,” reframes love as something discovered rather than chased and discovering something worth holding onto. The earthy instrumentation forms a grounded, reflective mood, like someone choosing to believe that something good can still be waiting ahead.
Going Forward, Looking Back sounds like a coming-of-age EP. Across the six tracks, Becca Stefanson draws a different moment of growing up, whether that’s first heartbreak, uncertainty, longing, or finally allowing yourself to hope again. For a debut EP, it feels remarkably self-assured. It’s built on honest songwriting, leaving plenty of space for listeners to see parts of their own story in it.

Figuring out my path while actively plotting ten others. Serious about my dreams with somewhat chaotic ambition. Will do anything for cats.
