The Lars Pagelsen Trio is a jazz trio from Frankfurt am Main, Germany, featuring pianist Lars Pagelsen, bassist Alisa Pou Montz, and drummer Felix Lothwesen. Their latest single, “Don’t You Cry,” leads their 2024 four-track EP of the same name, capturing their tight, expressive jazz sound.

Standing at eight impressive minutes, the piece opens with gentle, somber piano keys that immediately settle the mood into quiet reflection. Soon after, soft jazz textures drift in, smoothing the edges and giving the track a warm steady pulse.
As it unfolds, the trio shapes the music like a real conversation, pulling and pushing at emotion without ever tipping into chaos. Meanwhile, around the three-minute mark, the piano and bass begin almost teasing each other, sounding like a subtle tension that feels like honest back-and-forth between close friends. It’s like a friend bringing you down from an emotionally heavy state.

Moreover, the rhythm stays relaxed, letting the song breathe naturally. Then midway through, the arrangement opens wide, leaving space between notes. The scattered piano touches and light percussion mirror a lull in the conversation, comfortable and intimate.
Gradually, a hazy bassline and intoxicating piano melody rise together, wrapping the track in warmth and quiet reassurance. The trio leans into restraint, letting small shifts in tone and tempo speak louder than any grand flourish. In the end, the closing stretch feels like an intimate hug, echoing the title’s promise and leaving you with the sense that someone sat beside you, listened, and softly spoke, Don’t You Cry.
