South Carolina rock trio For You Brother continue their album Make It Rain On Them with AWAY, a guitar-driven rock track inspired by classic rock. Made up of John Davis, Jean Carlos, whose previous band won a Grammy Award in Brazil, and Phil Noah, the trio combines decades of musical experience into a powerful, expansive sound.

AWAY opens unapologetically. The percussion hard-on pushes the track forward, while the melodic vocals cut through with expressive ad-libs keeping it from feeling too heavy. This track gives me the image of walking past a busy street where a band is busking in the rain, completely soaked but still singing like nobody else exists.
Lyrically, the song feels like somebody finally admitting they’ve been carrying too much for too long. “I ran through the midnight, with a heart made of stone,” sounds like someone who tried to protect themselves but failed. Then, “Every road I took kept breaking down, every crown I wore fell to the ground,” strips away every illusion of having it all together, acknowledging failure without moving into self-pity.

And then the refrain, “I’ve been away, away for too long,” sounds like finally finding your way back to yourself. There’s something refreshingly honest about AWAY. It wears its bruises out in the open, reminding you that moving forward often begins with admitting where you’ve been all along.
