Auswan Brings Retro-Funk Charm to Debut Single “Something to Live For”

Los Angeles-based multi-instrumentalist and vocalist Auswan makes his solo debut with Something to Live For, a funk-pop and soul single released on July 17, 2026. Originally from Montclair, New Jersey, Austin Klewan first made his name as the saxophonist and co-lead vocalist of the Chicago pop-soul collective Honey Butter before launching his solo project.

Something to Live For opens with this retro-funk vibe. It sounds like someone walking down a street bursting with colour in wide-cut jeans and boots. Everything feels bright. The guitar twangs so satisfyingly that it almost carries the whole track on its own. The track also has this bounce to it that almost makes you want to skip a step.

Then the lyrics, “I’ve been trying for so long, not to face what’s in front of me… but something inside keeps telling me, I should be with you,” sound like someone finally admitting something they’ve been trying to outrun. More than a love song, there is this feeling of realization running throughout. The vocals stay grounded and warm throughout, letting the groove do as much of the work as the lyrics. “Your love is worth living for,” becomes the lyric that ties everything together.

Something to Live For is about finally finding someone who makes the ordinary parts of life feel brighter, colouring your world with their love. It ends with the feeling of two people dancing through an empty street after everyone else has gone home, completely unaware that the night is already over.
