The Cumberland River Project returns with When The Streetlights Came On, released on May 15, 2026. Led by German songwriter and producer Frank Renfordt, the project blends country, Americana, folk-rock, and soft rock through acoustic-driven songwriting and nostalgic storytelling. Featuring vocals from Stephen Carey, guitar by Oleh Andrievsky, and lyrics by Mick Logsdon, it captures the feeling of growing up, summer nights, and memories that stay with you long after they pass.

When The Streetlights Came On sounds like summer evenings that stretched on forever when you were younger. The guitars and percussion move steadily through the track while the saxophone slips in here and there adding warmth and colour. The vocals sit close to the listener, almost conversational, like somebody remembering these moments out loud while sitting beside you.
“Books to the floor a quick change of the shoes,” immediately drops you into those afternoons of running home from school just to throw your bag down and disappear outside again before dinner. The song fills itself with images of scraped knees, bikes left on driveways, treehouses, parks, and kids wandering around neighbourhoods until the sky started turning orange. “Free to create our Neverland world,” carries that exact feeling of childhood freedom where every empty street or patch of grass became part of something bigger in your imagination.

Then the refrain, “We just had to be home when the streetlights came on,” carries this ache underneath knowing those days are now long gone. It feels like the kind of song you play while driving home in the evening watching the sky darken, thinking about old friends, old streets, and how quickly growing up happened without you noticing.
