Windsor, Ontario singer-songwriter Crissi Cochrane returned on June 5, 2026 with Fire Sign, a five-track EP, expanding her blend of indie pop, soul, and jazz into a broader sound that resists easy categorisation. Pulling from her Aries nature, the project is more emotionally raw and stormy than her previous work. Across five tracks, it explores vulnerability, passion, and self-discovery while continuing the thoughtful songwriting that has defined Cochrane’s decades-long independent career.

The EP

Meet Me at Malden set against the natural backdrop of Windsor’s Malden Park, opens the EP wistfully. It arrives like twinkles and fairy dust, that feels almost Snow White-esque, gently asking, “If I whisper in the wind, will you feel it on your skin,” pulling you into that gentle, dreamlike world. Next, Black Wasp shifts into something stormier, an intense change. The electric guitar carries much more weight here while vocals remain soft, creating a beautiful contrast that mirrors the song itself. “I let the sleeping dogs lie…you’ve gotta be hardy to survive, round here.” It sounds weathered and resilient, speaking of hard-earned wisdom.

After that, Her Name talks about betrayal and the heartbreak that comes with it. It sounds like it’s playing from an old television in an antique shop as you walk past it late at night. There is something distant about it. Then, Am I Falling in Love opens on grand, almost orchestral notes before unfolding into, “I didn’t know the things you said would make me burn for you, Am I, Am I, Am I, falling in love? It’s the one thing I said I would not do.” Here, the lyrics say everything.

Lastly, Little Dove closes the EP with a portrait of motherhood and the enduring love that anchors it. The vocals feel incredibly intimate, almost like they’re being sung directly into your ear, accompanied with a warm heavy hand against your chest. “I wonder every night which memories will fade in the light and which ones will keep you company when I give mine to the stars.” is such beautiful imagery.

Fire Sign feels like five different moments from the same life. Every track carries a different emotion, but together they become a portrait of somebody learning to embrace every part of themselves. It’s an EP that writes in images, built vividly through thoughtful poetry.
