California singer-songwriter Prem Byrne returned on June 19, 2026 with When The Honeymoon Is Over, an indie-folk single that imagines what happens after the excitement of new love begins to fade. The track blends acoustic with soft electric guitar, bansuri, and tabla rhythms. Also accompanying the release is an official lyric video available on YouTube.

When The Honeymoon Is Over opens immediately on a full, weighty arrangement. The music arrives all at once, wrapping itself around the lyrics. The touches of bansuri and tabla give the track a warm, grounded feeling from the very first note. Then, the line, “Everything gone but her toothbrush,” is such a simple image; how one small object is enough to remind you that somebody who was once part of your everyday life is now gone.
Moreover, throughout, the lyrics don’t spend time blaming the other person but just sit with what comes after. The line, “There’s more space in the middle of the bed,” is wrapped around loneliness. Even the changing seasons become a metaphor: “Falling Autumn leaves, Summer never stays.” Nothing lasts forever, not even the happiest moments. The melody also moves with that same patience with its acoustics, and the deep vocals, settling, not rushing to the next emotion.

What I like most is that this track isn’t really about heartbreak. It’s about what happens after the excitement wears off and reality settles in. “Can I let someone closer and not hide how I feel, when the honeymoon is over and things get real.” That question sits at the emotional centre. It isn’t asking whether love exists, but if you can stay open once love stops feeling effortless.
When The Honeymoon Is Over reminds me of something you’d hear playing softly on a boat during an evening ride, the water turning opaque and calm, the sky blooming into that deep shade of blue just before it gets dark. It’s the kind of song that makes you think about your own life just as much as the people around you.

Figuring out my path while actively plotting ten others. Serious about my dreams with somewhat chaotic ambition. Will do anything for cats.
