LONELY is a gorgeous pop-rock track that’s unafraid of being vulnerable. From the stripped, earnest lyrics to her fervent, desperate singing, it’s Thoresen’s most personal song yet, and it shows.
The Artist
Anna Thoresen started making music at the age of 19. She was studying to be an actor, and just experimenting with sounds. Little did she know, she was about to fall completely head over heels in love with music. She released her debut track, ‘I think this is love?’, in 2022 and quickly followed this up with ‘Party girl’s lament’ that same year, then her first EP, ‘i HTE u + two’ which contained three captivating tracks. With her quirky song titles and infectious soundscapes, Thoresen quickly established herself as a rising star to look out for.

Song Atmosphere
‘LONELY’ starts with a gravelly, warped-radio-recording sounding clip that immediately catches attention. It’s followed by swelling instrumentation, and soulful, breathy singing – “I haven’t been touched in so long, I forgot how it feels.”
The gentle reverb and distant echoes further enhance the sense of space and isolation, making the listener feel lost within the song’s world. The production is purposeful, and the instrumentation, which consists mainly of guitar strumming and a steady beat, really allows Thoresen’s vocals to be the centre of the show. The touches of reverb and synth lift the song, bringing it a haunting edge.

The song is deeply personal and intimate. This is what makes it universal. All of us have felt this kind of loneliness at some point, Thoresen puts words and music to it. The simple, honest lyrics, combined with her bluesy, open-throat singing makes this song an easy addition to anybody’s songs-to-scream-while-crying playlist. The breathy, layered vocal echo capitalizes on the loneliness, almost zooming into it and letting us touch it, feel it, sit in it ourselves.
