Dani Twice – BLACK CAT | Trap

Music, over the course of the years, has taken a host of new sounds, with new things happening in the industry every day. There are new sounds to play with, new tools to help you make your music, and an audience wider than ever to appreciate your art. Going on this whole new-age hip-hop train and doing a darn good job at piloting itself is “Black Cat” by Dani Twice, the newest single out of the Dani Twice kitchen. Keep reading on as I tell you how it deserves to be on the list of things you appreciate this week.

The whole song follows this very avant-garde, experimental sort of production flavour that immediately stands out to the listener. I love how many elements there are; how well they appear to be layered together, even so from a first listen. The flows are tight, the percussion tasteful; and the melodic sections are very well done. From a songwriter’s angle, this is an extremely well-executed project that commands your attention right from the time you put your headphones on and hit play. The beat goes hard, with anime excerpts (am I right?) in the background. The main vocals have some really cool-sounding processing going on. The flow is a mix of freestyled and time-rhymed, with a beautiful blend of complimentary elements in the background, with the ad-libs adding a farther layer of flair to an already bouncy, headbang-worthy number.

The mix, as I keep saying in a lot of the things I write, is as much a creative process a technical process, and that shines through here. A lot of the charm that this track brings to the table is down to the mix, and how creatively the various elements of the song have been used and presented throughout its runtime. The dynamics are tight, the bass is round and well-controlled, and even on my studio listening setup, this mix scales. Rare for an indie project, I will note.

Overall, I loved listening to this track as much as I enjoyed reviewing it. There is great harmony going on between the creative and the technical aspects of this track, and that is the hallmark of a well-made track. Check it out here!
