Intimacy in Honesty: “Instead of Making Love (Say Hello)” by Less

Naples-born singer-songwriter Less shapes her sound through raw storytelling, blending confessional lyricism with psychedelic rock textures. During her early years, moving from place to place taught her to adapt. After moving to Florence, grief over her grandmother’s passing and discovering her identity spurred her writing. Then, meeting producers Lorenzo Santi and Federico Maremmi at Kapow Studio expanded her horizons. This August, she released Instead of Making Love (Say Hello) from Kapow Vintage Studio, captured entirely with analog equipment. Her work transforms private experiences into shared sonic landscapes.

From its opening, the track invites immersion. The analog warmth adds grit and texture, every chord alive with breath. You feel pulled inside the studio, as though the instruments surround you and each lyric floats through the room. The atmosphere shifts like light through a stained-glass window: soft, fragmented, radiant, yet undeniably whole.

Lyrically, Less pares intimacy down to its essence. “I wanna say hello, that’s the reason why I’m lost” portrays desire as rooted in communication, not flesh. Next, “At least I got something touching me” juxtaposes physicality against emotional emptiness. The lines, “I’ve lost the rhythm, no way to get you back…” admit the relationship (or emotional flow) is broken, but still search for meaning in the mess. Throughout, the lyrics sketch a portrait of yearning: someone calling through fog, desperate to be seen before they are touched.

Finally, there is this ebb and flow, throughout the track that never loses intimacy; instead, it deepens its grip. With the lyrics reading like fragments of a journal, the track resonates far beyond its minutes. Less reminds us that vulnerability remains the truest language of desire.
