Allan Jamisen Carries Old Memories Through Electro-Pop on “Closing In”

Phoenix artist Allan Jamisen released the electro-pop single Closing In on May 16, 2026. Known for combining music with visual art and experimental songwriting, Jamisen based the track on a poem he wrote years ago while living in Copenhagen during a turbulent period in his life. Over time, that piece slowly evolved into the finished song released today.

Closing In opens with almost-spoken vocals that feel closer to somebody reading slam poetry into a tape recorder. The beats scatter around underneath the track in uneven little pulses while the synths slowly creep in around them, giving the whole song this nervous, restless atmosphere from the very beginning. It sounds like sitting alone in a dim apartment, streetlights peeking through the blinds and your thoughts start getting louder than the room around you.

While line, “There’s a little decency in every troubled dream,” pulls the song into a space where memory, instinct, doubt, and isolation all start bleeding together. “Sometimes it’s not right enough to live in my own skin,” sits heavy and tangled with emotions. The layered backing vocals almost sound ghostly at points, like different versions of the same person arguing quietly inside their own head.

The song feels caught between wanting escape and feeling trapped inside yourself. The jangling guitars and growing synths slowly tighten around the track until everything starts feeling claustrophobic without ever fully exploding. Closing In sounds like the kind of music you would hear when taking a walk through empty streets while conversations, regrets, and thoughts you cannot turn off, slowly creep up on you.
