A group of young musicians from England are producing what seems to be a rather unique sound with their seven-man act Year of the Dog.
Inspired from their erstwhile association at the Royal Welsh College of Music, Felix Lindsell-Hales, Jacob Prescott, Luke Hartley, Olly Jenkins, Peter Richards, Dan Hall and Gareth Thomas have managed to champion the sound of their brasshouse-soul element, currently updating their discography with the release of their latest track Arch Enemy. The group returns to the scene from their popularly acclaimed 2020 EP Bad Taste, appearing to be more close-knit and self-assured than ever before.
The three-minute track is as carnivalesque as the sound of frolic can be, occasionally also delving into closely associated genre variations such as nu-jazz, jazz fusion and funk. Characteristically, the soundscape warrants the contagion that follows it, sure to make the listeners go footloose in infectious energy. With the mid-baritone vocals, assisted with short brass melodies and peppy, upbeat percussive elements that work great to create a ridiculously immersive pick-me-up groove, Arch Enemy by Year of the Dog is perhaps the perfect song for the outdoors.
