Ziggy Alberts - searching for freedom

Ziggy Alberts – circus | Despondent

Still in the spotlight for his widely acclaimed 2020 full-length album together, Australian singer-songwriting maverick Ziggy Alberts disallows dust settling on his discography; quickly following up previous releases with full-length album — searching for freedom. The forty-seven minute album comprises twelve tracks — one of which is the raw acoustic genius of circus — a track that truly stands out from some of its peer numbers. Replete with the mellow percussive elements of the track, circus is moody, balladic and introspective, assisted throughout with Alberts’ acoustic arpeggio fingerpicking arrangement and his wistful vocals. Characteristically folk, the five-minute track appears beautifully coached by coastal-folk, acoustic-folk, alternative indie and ballad genres — resembling musical similarity to singer-songwriters like Sufjan Stevens, James Bay and Hozier — who have managed to champion the genre’s sound. The track is almost lovelorn, a repentful cul-de-sac arising out of romantic melancholia and despondency, where Alberts’ vocals appear crestfallen and show wisdom arising out of the years of desolation.

Already making a name for himself in the Australian music scene, the music of Ziggy Alberts should not fall to deaf ears. Check out the track here:
