E.G. Phillips is a San Francisco based songwriter who creates lyric driven songs with his own special blend of whimsy and cinematic imagery, which he uses to give a wry take on dealing with the longings of the heart and the madness of existence. One could say his music has a jazz-infused, alternative folk, vibe. His favourites and influences are Bob Dylan, The Beatles, The Kinks and Duke Ellington. He also mentions that his lyrics are largely influenced by long-running British sci-fi show “Doctor Who.”
His newest single, The Octopus Song is a jazz-infused, alternate pop serenade from his upcoming album Alien from an Alternate Earth. The single begins with a jazzy storytelling atmosphere filled with piano, soft percussion and a saxophone. Like all of E.G. Phillips’ discography, the song is a beautiful story about the Octopus, who is telling us his story. The song has a beautiful theatrical feel to it and has you grasping onto every one of his melodic words. His dynamic vocals are to die for.
The Octopus Song is a definite listen and definitely gives me Disney vibes. I’ll definitely be listening to E.G. Phillips to calm me down on a stressful day.
Don’t miss out on The Octopus Song by E.G. Phillips from his upcoming album, Alien from an alternate Earth.
