Vern Asbury and Sam Bourne make up the pop duo, Blueprint Moon. Having just released their second single, Lockdown, the pop duo is now making heads turn. While the COVID-19 pandemic has wreaked havoc across the world, I think it is inspiring to see that people have also returned to doing things they love – one of those things being producing music. It is very fascinating to see and listen to so many interpretations and inspiration based on the Lockdown. Blueprint moon’s Vern Asbury and Sam Bourne both showcase their production, writing skills with this single. Asbury is usually the lead vocalist and guitarist, while Bourne is the bassist and accompanying vocals. Vern and Sam are both session musicians in the musical industry, having played on tracks by Lewis Capaldi, Tom Grennan, and Niall Horan, among others.
Based in Brighton, Blueprint Moon show us their EDM/glitch-pop rendition of a love story that is formed during the lockdown. The song is characterized by Vern Asbury’s succinct and attractive vocals. There’s something about his vocals that has a soft feel that draws you in. The production of Lockdown, has a very unplugged vibe that segues in and out of the electronic accompanying music. This juxtaposition and movement of the music is closely accurate to what we’ve all experienced during the Lockdown. The song is about a pair who meets just before being locked down as a new couple. Their love is compelled to grow stronger, and the story concludes with a gruesome twist.
I think my favorite part of the song is the hints of pop-rock vibe in the guitar lead. The instrumentals have really managed to channel the atmosphere of the lockdown into the single.
