Steven Wilson Announces New Album Requiem For A Village, Shares Title Track

The musician’s ninth studio album will arrive on November 6, 2026, through Fiction Records, with David Tennant, Andy Partridge, Randy McStine, Russell Holzman and Katherine Priddy among its contributors.

Steven Wilson has announced his ninth studio album, Requiem For A Village, and released its title track. Fiction Records will issue the album on November 6, 2026. The new single also arrives with the first instalment of Wilson’s “Village Hall Sessions” video series on YouTube.

For the album, Wilson focused on human performance rather than studio correction. He used analogue synthesizers, kept some instruments imperfectly tuned, and played violin, oboe and drums himself, including instruments he does not regularly play. That approach helped shape the album’s central idea of a village that exists outside a specific time or place.

The record includes narration by Scottish actor David Tennant. Former XTC member Andy Partridge wrote the narration and contributed lyrics, while multi-instrumentalist Randy McStine also appears on the album. Russell Holzman plays drums on the tracks Requiem For A Village, Now Departing, A Basket Of Bees, and Wheel. Katherine Priddy provides vocals on Murmuration.

Fiction Records will release the album on CD, Blu-ray, 140g double black vinyl and oxblood-coloured double vinyl. A box set will include two CDs and a Blu-ray housed in a 96-page hardback book. Amazon will carry a limited number of signed CDs, while HMV will offer a CD edition with exclusive packaging.

On September 22, Wilson will host “Songs From The Village” at The Social in London. The DJ set will feature music connected to the album’s influences, including Boards of Canada, Demdike Stare and Third Ear Band. Ticket proceeds will go to Here 2 Belong.
