Zo – Cry | Rock

After a three year hiatus, Gina Zo and Zo are back with their second single of 2021, Cry. An emotive rock piece, Cry is definitely addition to my playlist. Zo, the band, consists of drummer Buddy Mazzenga, guitaristJoe McEnany, bassist Andrew Amado and guitaristTyler Detulleo.

What begins with a beautiful lead, is perfectly complimented by Gina’s seductive voice. Cry has an indie-blues vibe which is both melancholic and groovy. Its the perfect song to jam to. Zo has a unique, almost country-like riff going on in the background. What I really love about Cry, is the heart-clenching pacing of the song. Every time the song reaches what seems like a peak, it slows down and really focuses on Gina’s singing. Cry is such a great addition to their earlier single, Never Meant.

Cry has this very interesting take on rock that reminds me of The Cranberries, Led Zeppelin and the Smashing Pumpkins. The ability of the song to really slow down and let you explore the feelings its trying to express, is the best thing about Cry. I’d love to watch Cry performed by Zo, live. Gina Zo’s dynamic voice has the same gut wrenching capacity to make you introspect like that of Amy Winehouse and Dolores O’Riordan. Zo has a vibe for all indie, rock and alternative-rock lovers. Cry is definitely going on my playlist for a brighter day. I look forward to seeing more from Zo.
