Still blasting that same ol’ playlist in the gym? It’s time for a do-over! Pick Up Goliath just dropped the fix. “La Sombra” comes crashing in with a chaotic ensemble of modern metalcore, prog, nu-metal, and punk energy that sounds perfect for your calisthenics sessions. It’s loud, aggressive, and fully committed to the bit.
The first thing that grabs your attention is how heavy the track is. The breakdowns are expansive and make you wanna headbang, two-step and mosh your life away. This is the really really good stuff. Like, you don’t even realize when you’re making the stank face. The guitars stay thick and gritty throughout, while the drums sound thunderous.

What differentiates “La Sombra” from other experimental modern metal tracks is how it switches moods without losing its essence. Sometimes it’s chaotic and then you’re hit with a clean vocal section, and then a breakdown followed by a rap verse. A lot of bands blending genres these days end up sounding confused. Pick Up Goliath know exactly what they’re doing.
The entire song is also very raw in its essence. This makes it so much more exciting. The production doesn’t sound like it is trying hard to go viral on social media. It feels like a band letting loose and trusting listeners to keep up.
“La Sombra” feels like crowd surfing into bad decisions, and honestly, that’s part of the fun. If you miss the era when heavy music felt unpredictable and slightly unhinged, this track deserves a spot in your rotation.
