Guitar legends Joe Satriani and Steve Vai continue their acclaimed SATCHVAI Band tour across USA and Canada.
More than five decades after first meeting as teenagers on New York’s Long Island, guitar icons Joe Satriani and Steve Vai are closing in on the final stretch of their successful SATCHVAI Band: Surfing With The Hydra 2026 Tour. The duo recently performed at Meridian Hall in Toronto alongside special guests Animals as Leaders. The tour concludes on May 30 in Vienna.
The veteran guitarists formed the SATCHVAI Band in 2024, more than 50 years after Satriani first taught Vai guitar lessons in Long Island. Since then, both musicians have built celebrated solo careers and collaborated with major artists including Mick Jagger, Frank Zappa, Sammy Hagar and Todd Rundgren.
The pair also remain central figures behind the long-running G3 guitar tours, which began in 1996 and returned in 2024. Their current band features drummer Kenny Aronoff, bassist Marco Mendoza and guitarist Pete Thorn.
Satriani and Vai have already released three songs from the SATCHVAI Band’s upcoming debut album. Both musicians said their onstage chemistry continues to evolve through improvisation, experimentation and mutual respect.
“We’re just the same kids sitting here with our guitars trying to make funny noises,” Satriani shared with The San Diego Union-Tribune while reflecting on the tour and the duo’s enduring friendship.
Vai added that performing together pushes both players creatively and allows them to explore “different things” musically each night on stage. Check out a glimpse of their chemistry at Toronto last night:
