Canadian singer-songwriter and music producer Spence Paull has a number of feathers in her cap. Known for using her production skills, musical theatre experience and jazz inspiration in her music, Crush is pop masterpiece. And it is nothing like I’ve ever heard before.
The song begins with a foot tapping, strum-beat that delves into some delicate but strong vocals. The groovy beat, catchy lyrics and the show tunes melody get you grooving almost immediately. The song is dynamic and keeps you guessing where it is going. Spence Paull displays a strong and dynamic vocal range. Her seductive vocals create a tense atmosphere and keep you hanging on to every word she sings. With some smart, snarky lyrics and some funky music, you could only wish your Crush made you feel this way.
Spence Paull gives you an early 2010s Pop with a jazzy show tunes vibe to create the ultimate hype pop song. The groovy-ness of Crush reminds me of Gnarl’s Barkley, MGMT and Dance à la Plage. Crush is definitely going to be on my next impromptu dance party playlist! If I was in a coming-of -age, dance-musical, this song would be my big dance number. What can I say, the jazzy, showtunes interludes get me every time!
