Modal Split add to the Pop music landscape with “Feral Feeling”

Modal Split, the Frankfurt, Germany based independent songwriter and producer is back with his latest single “Feral Feeling”, a dance pop number. He is self-admittedly influenced by genres like synthpop and electropop and this new track combines these genres interestingly.

The sample for the track along with the background audio match the prevalent sound present in the current pop music ecosystem perfectly. The percussion on the track stays consistent throughout with only slight variations in the second verse. “Feral Feeling” uses a generous amount of sound effects along with clips and claps and the air-like build up to the chorus which only add to the track.  The vocals are high pitched and remain consistently so throughout which left me wishing for a little more variation. Modal Split plays with various elements in the background which stand in juxtaposition to the consistent vocals.

The bass line and strings were my favourite parts of the track. It is groovy and funky and sounds straight out of Dua Lipa’s “Future Nostalgia”, the 80s disco inspired album. Lyrically, the track explores feelings of untameable and an almost animalistic desire as suggested by the title of the track “Feral Feeling”. The exploration of themes like irresistible female desire is welcome and even refreshing coming from an artist like Modal Split.
