May Fall is an Israeli artist who dabbles in any genre that makes active use of the synthesizer. Although his roots lie in progressive metal, he makes a departure to experiment in the realms of synth-pop, funk and disco. The sonic palette of “Under Cover” is a unique and interesting choice. The sharp synth and staccato keys are robotic and reminiscent of early 2000s electronic music. The subdued percussion adds a necessary sense of rhythm while the overarching synth brings in grandeur. The whispery vocal performance initially borders on spoken word and constantly displays a sense of in-built restraint. The track has streaks of disco and although it is up-beat it manages to have a chill, summery ambience.

Lyrically the track explores the authenticity of identity in a language that feels descriptive of a detective’s adventure, using words like the track’s title “Under Cover”, “Witness”,” Secrecy” and “True Identity”. There is an overwhelming feeling of reaching a tipping point that is assuaged by the narrative of a fake identity. While questions such are ‘who is the real me?’ and ‘are my actions truly mine?’ can be nihilistic, I enjoyed its investigation through a chronicle that feels like a mystery.
