ONCEVOICELESS brings hip-hop energy to “GYATT!”

ONCEVOICELESS is an anonymous singer-songwriter working primarily with the genres of rap, R&B and alternative music. He is self-admittedly influenced by artists like XXXTentacion and J Cole who are difficult to place within the rigid box of a genre. He deeply believes in the spirit of collaboration and is seen working with many artists transcending geographical boundaries. He has started releasing his own music fairly recently and “GYATT!” is his second and latest single featuring rapper Cerr.

The track starts off with synth-heavy electronic production at scales so high it feels psychedelic, even vampiric at times. The production by meltycanon feels influenced by the sonic palette that playboy Carti has been leaning heavily into in his career. The setting up of this energy before the rapping or beats make their appearance is clever in my opinion as it gives the listener a hint at what to expect.

The beat is energetic and reminiscent of hyper-pop, with a bass so heavy it adds a sense vibration to the entire song. Cerr displays a strong rap performance, filled with a fluent flow he is able to switch with ease. His style is energetic and has elements of mumble rap and trap sprinkled in it. The flow during the one minute mark is especially strong, making it the section of the track I anticipate the most.

The word “Gyatt” is a slang term made famous by popular Twitch streamer Kai Cenant which is used in response, usually coloured with surprise or admiration to seeing a large butt. As the title suggests, in terms of the lyricism the track is explicitly sexual. While experiences in sex are described in detail, common themes in rap such as a display of wealth and power are done in lines like “I got all these bands”. The integration of modern internet slang and culture make the track contemporary.
