D.Watkins makes us “Slow Wine” on his R&B track!

D.Watkins is a singer-songwriter and music producer and trained artist who has been releasing music since 2017 and has over the course of the last seven years built up an extensive discography.  He has self-admittedly been passionate about music since the age of four and is influenced by legendary artists like Micheal Jackson and Prince. His father’s career as a musician and performing artist has been a huge inspiration for him. “Slow Wine”, the last track from his 2019 album “Vibe” borrows from Afrobeats and Rnb to create a smooth dance-worthy track.

The instrumentation on “Slow Wine” is simple, chill and effective. The really airy synths start the track off with twinkling notes adding an ethereal effect. The percussion is bass-heavy and groovy making it the most evident afrobeat element on the song. I would have enjoyed witnessing the track play around more with intensity levels. The high-pitched keys and maraca-esque drums add a light feathery touch.

I enjoyed the soothing, deep and sultry vocal performance by D.Watkins especially in the variation he showed between his singing and ad-libs. The layering of his vocals add depth while the whispery ad-libs sprinkled throughout the track add texture to it.

Wine is a dance move that emphasises the movement of one’s waist and lyrically the track is an invitation to “Slow Wine”. It expresses the desire to watch someone you desire dance for you. Overall, Wine Slow feels like a track a prominent and popular artist like Drake would make.
