Mark Peters experiments with “Grace of the fall – Acoustic”

Mark Peters does not like being pigeon-holed into the genre of singer-songwriter as his inspiration from Blues, Country, Jazz and Folk are important elements that represent his music. He has been releasing music since 2017 along with his four-piece group called ‘Mark Peters and the Dark Band’ where he performs vocals and acoustic guitar and has Fabian Natter on Drums, Martin Burtscher on Electric Guitar, and Markus Manahl on Bass.

The acoustic version of “Grace of the fall”, the latest single from Londoner Mark Peters like any other acoustic version is stripped down to only include strings and occasional beats while we see the keys, percussion and strings come together for the original version. The cough in the beginning could have been a part of the script, or not! Either way, it adds rawness to the beginning of the track. Mark’s vocal inflections and accent remind one heavily of his inspiration from Country music. His voice, that is husky and almost whispery initially, builds up in terms of strength towards the end of the song when the tapping that resembles percussion kicks in where he also lyrically mentions “fire”. I thought to build up a song in terms of strength was an interesting choice.

The strumming patterns in the instrumentation oscillated erratically between quick and slow and I personally enjoyed the solo arrangement towards the end of the song. Lyrically the song explores themes of missing someone you love and imagines a future where they might reunite.

The acoustic version of “Grace of the Fall” by Mark Peters does justice to the original track by giving space to the artist to explore different versions and emotions of what is essentially the same idea.
