Eddie Cohn is cheerfully musical in his new single “Wave Goodbye”

Eddie Cohn is an independent Rock musician based out of Los Angeles who has been releasing music for over a decade now. Originally from Cleveland, he started his journey with music at the age of 3 and is now a musician, podcaster, writer, DJ and Yoga teacher. He has four full-length albums under his belt and is seen tapping into 90s grunge rock in his latest single “Wave Goodbye”.

The track starts off with the word “Bye” harmonised and repeated in the brightest way possible reminding one of the mornings that foreshadow good times ahead. The instrumentation that follows it can be best described as the backtrack to the feeling of curiosity. The percussion by Jake Reed is relatively standard allowing the quick strum of the strings by Brett Farkas to shine and keep the track alive. The pre-chorus feels like a build up straight from an EDM song, but it proves to be a tease when we witness the song switch back to its bright sonic palette in the chorus. While the vocal harmonies are written interestingly, to me the vocal performance felt like it could have been stronger.

The lyrics feel like the description of a state of mind. Only a person with an avoidant attachment style experiencing pettiness in the process of leaving a relationship they no longer feel they need is capable of saying “Over my dead body, looks like you’ve lost your mind”. in a way that also makes the listener relate to their feelings. The song’s karmic motto “What goes around, comes around” lets the Eddie Cohn run from toxicity and bid goodbye to everything that does not serve him anymore.

The production on the song is versatile and well done in my opinion; it makes liberal use of sound effects that only enhance the texture of the track.  “Wave Goodbye” is the track you have been looking for to add to your long drive playlist!
