Seven Red Lions bring live energy to their latest track “Alone”

Seven Red Lions, the London based Indie Rock Band has performing live on stages across UK and Mexico since its conception in 2015. Consisting of David Lion from Mexico and Sara Priegue from Portugal, the band cares deeply about the energy they are able to summon in live performance which explains their sparse output in terms of releases in the past decade. Their 5th release “Alone” is a short track intense in terms of its energy, which sets it apart from the band’s previous work.

The instrumentation on “Alone” is the star of the show. The percussion is the stuff of standard high-energy rock and the strings stood out as the most engaging elements to me. The riff on the introduction that repeats itself twice throughout the course of the song is catchy. The strings are constantly playing with two different and parallel melodies that are in sync with each other such that the listener is able to pay attention to both equally and simultaneously. The short bridge has slower percussion and head-boppy string work by Seven Red Lions.

The vocal performance and melody construction on the first verse is at times off-key, making one wonder whether it is an intentional creative choice. The unpredictable switches between major and minor keys are the weakest link in my opinion. This does not introduce the track in the most positive light, but the instrumentation makes one hold on. This is soon remedied in the second verse where the vocal effects added make the melody feel like husky spoken word. Overall, the sound is mixed in a manner that lets the instrumentation overpower the vocals, which for this track works perfectly.

Lyrically the track is reminder of how we are born alone and will die alone. If you are looking to add a short and intense rock track your playlist, I’d suggest giving “Alone” by Seven Red Lions a shot!
