Chet Bucke – Leaving (Marie) | Nostalgia

In 2021, Chet Bucke made his Spotify debut by featuring on a track on artist i.tor’s EP “catarino”. He recently released his first track – Leaving (Marie) – an indie-folk song with a touch of rock and pop. Inspired by artists like Bon Iver, Phoebe Bridger, and FINNEAS, he incorporates an eclectic mix of sounds from his influences into his music. His latest release showcases a fantastic blend of elements from these genres, giving listeners a peek into his unique sound.

The track begins with a Spanish radio-like vocal sample that fades away slowly to introduce a bright acoustic guitar. Bucke sings with a gritty tone over the soft instrumentation – “Won’t you tell me to go / I don’t need to know / Don’t you stand by the door / Keep away from the cold “. Right from the start, the track has a nostalgic and somewhat aggressive tone to it, and with an infectious vocal hook line, it’s almost impossible to get the melody out of your head!

As the track progresses, electric guitars play over tight percussive grooves and rich harmonies. Bucke’s vocals stay centre stage in the chorus and are accompanied well by the instrumentation till the end. With smooth transitions and a bunch of colourful ear candy, it’s evident that the artist is a fabulous songwriter and producer. Bucke’s debut release is an amalgamation of the addictive melodies of pop, the hard-hitting grooves of rock and roll, and the raw acoustic sound of indie-folk; a top-notch composition and a masterful mix!
