The song starts with a simple acoustic riff that persists throughout, setting a hopeful and cheery stage for the listener. The high-pitched sections of the strings sound almost like bell tones adding a sweet touch of versatility. Tim Compogna’s voice comes in soon enough and is strong, loud, out-there and capable of holding the listener’s attention.
The Single is structurally simple and constructed such that new layers are added as the song progresses. The heavy yet sparse percussion kicks in during the chorus making it upbeat and the brief string section post Chorus provide the much-needed soothing effect before we move on to the next verse. The Vocal harmonies by Tim Compagna become prevalent in the second half and keep the song from becoming monotonous. The section prior to the bridge is cheery and catchy with the accent and string pattern almost reminding one of a Country song. The song is finally stripped of its layers and mellows down towards the end where only some strings are left – literally! The last strum leaves the listener at peace, wanting more.
Any Singer-Songwriter’s greatest strength is their voice and writing ability; and the charm of ‘New Day’ lies in its simple yet optimistic lyrics. The theme of gratitude for every new day while recognizing life’s strife and “uphill climb” is persistent. The track celebrates loved ones and is a reminder to take all the “ups and downs” of the human condition “day by day”. If you are looking for a simple anthemic ballad that will leave you hopeful, go listen to “New Day” by Tim Compagna!
