Sunstroke Rain is back with a new Indie-pop record “Life is Sacred”

Sunstroke Rain consists of singer and composer Karin Turesson along with Olivia Lyne and Lisa Frisk; all vocalists who play the keys, and Moog Bass. They are known for lyricism that is explicitly political and humorous, taking on contemporary debates including the Trump Presidency and Greta Thunberg’s climate activism. After their debut album, in 2022, they are back in 2024 with their latest single “Life is Sacred”.

“Life is Sacred” starts off with ethereal production that juxtaposes magical airy notes with rhythmic, hard-hitting bass. The clappy percussion is vintage and the more hypnotic sound effects add a retro touch to it. The song has a whisper filled ambience and carries the essence of disco and house music. The vocals that lean towards acapella at times are echoed out and layered to such an extent that it is difficult to hear only one “lead” vocalist.  The instruments sound intentionally dated, old and timely. The track is split into sections repeatedly marked by a different but similar sound. This section of the track is produced well and makes use of space in sound efficiently in my opinion.

I thought that the most interesting part about “Life is Sacred” is the choice of sonic palette, which is unique enough to keep a listener engaged.  Lyrically the track is filled with wisdom about the possibilities of life and what life can be, but it is delivered in vogue, almost ironically which makes the songwriting iconic.
