“Too Much” with its intentional blurry atmosphere could be placed in the soundscape of chill Pop music. It has an intentionally atmosphere and simple in terms of the elements it brings along. The strings and their quick strumming pattern along with the light percussion playing pivotal roles. The rough vocal tones and vocal layering by Chavar Donatae is unique especially in the bridge where added claps and choir-like back up vocals make it sound anthemic.  The chorus repeats itself four times which felt like too many times especially for a track as short as this one.

One can only offer personal interpretations of lyrics and in “Too Much”, Chavar Donatae speaks to his conflicting and confusing emotions around fame. His feeling of the world’s pace being faster than what he can keep up with and new experiences bringing with them old and familiar patterns lay bare the thoughts that help his process the idea “I don’t know none of them, but they all know my name”. With “I am not the same” he seems to be reconciling with the irreversible changes fame can bring to one’s life. The second verse explores his feelings of distress about people using him for his popularity.

The track gives us the feeling of summer and the cover art that is filled with pinks and yellows only serve to reiterate this. If you are looking to add more pop music to your playlist this summer, check out “Too Much” by Chavar Dontae!
