“Dark Thoughts”, by Giardini Oort: An otherworldy experimental track

Giardini Oort is a musical project designed for relaxation and meditation, aiming to offer mental serenity through immersive soundscapes. The project combines ambient, downtempo, lo-fi, and chill-out genres with influences from industrial and post-rock, creating a unique musical style. On their latest single, “Dark Thoughts”, they bring their style together yet again to create something quite special– keep listening for my thoughts!

Starting off with the solitary synth wafting around in the song with its thick, dense reverbs, the song immediately has a sense of gravity, an almost celestial vibe to it– and when the drums do kick in shortly thereafter, there is this sense of control, of poise, of controlled release of chaos and energy that overcomes the listener. The high pianos offer a rather poignant sound, while the drums steadily pick up the pace in the background, and as the song develops, this becomes more and more so a thing– with a steady, excellently well-controlled buildup.

A recurring element through this track is the wafty, otherworldy synths interplaying with the pianos, and how they all layer together– and the tension they create together and resolve together is astounding; with just this intensely focus-drawing production that manages to amaze, at the same time, hypnotise the listener of sorts; and as the song lets you go gently, the vocals speak to a message of wonder, of looking forward to something; yet something rather wistful in their “don’t go!”; and this is how we’re freed of the song; an experience like none other, if I may.

The production is something I’ve spoken about in high praise so far– and the mix and master help tons, with the kind of layering going on blending absolutely effortlessly with each other, while each element retains its original timbre and stands out among the others in the mix; and the master wraps it up beautifully with a clinical, precise sound that does not introduce too much a warm, homecoming association with the track, and leaves things to the interpretation of the listener; on an experimental track, I don’t know of a better choice.

So, “Dark Thoughts”, by Giardini Oort– there is much to say about this track, and there is much to look forward to from the project, and it leaves me excited about their sound and what is to come from their catalog next. Check out the track here!
