Franck Rapp plays with tension on Funk track “It’s Time”

Franck Rapp is a French music composer, singer and an award-winning film director who has been releasing his own music for almost a decade. His latest single “It’s Time” lies at the intersections of pop, rock and funk; seamlessly blending them all and posing a daring question to the rigid boundaries of genre.

In a music ecosystem where there is an urgency to prove what a track is about as soon as it begins, it is really refreshing to witness “It’s Time” use an entire minute to just set up the song using gentle keys that remind one of an evening in Paris. The build-up holds the tension along with the listener’s attention when it introduces heart-beat-esque percussion. The vocals by Franck Rapp are layered with incredibly high-pitched variations using the style pioneered by bands like the Parcels.

The Chorus is anything but gentle as it completely leans into its funky disco side! The strings between verses have a neutrality to them that is sonically really enjoyable. I thought that the back-up vocals that were at times used for accents and at other times used for harmonies were displayed cleverly. The synth solo that imitates a guitar solo was one of my favourite elements on the track. Although the bass is subdued, it acts as an invisible back bone to the track!

The songwriting is filled with hope! It addresses the ability to move forward from the past and start afresh! Whole the chorus emphasises the word “again”, themes such as taking chances and the role of choice are highlighted on the verse. Sunshine as something within the head is a beautiful lyrical concept in my opinon!

“It’s Time” by Franck Rapp is track I am eager to recommend to all my pop-rock loving friends. Make sure to check it out here:
