‘Til the Sun Goes Down’ Glows with Julie July Band’s Folk-Rock Magic

The UK-based Contemporary Folk-Rock Band enchants with every new track on their latest album, Wonderland. This marks the Julie July Band’s third full-length album release, once again winning the hearts of listeners. For those still young at heart with the folk, rock, and blues music of the ’60s and ’70s, this British ensemble is for you. Drawing inspiration from that golden era, the Julie July Band crafts distinctly contemporary music, filled with harmonious camaraderie, honest lyrics, brilliant acoustics, and beautiful vocals.
Keeping the listener on tenterhooks is their third track from the album Wonderland, Til the Sun Goes Down.

Til the Sun Goes Down opens with an interesting introduction, an intimidating sound that grips the listener and holds them fast. Then the strings strike their magic chords, swaying in Julie July’s stirring vocals. This song reminded me of a book, The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society. A story about community and resilience on a small island in the English Channel, where people withstood the hardships during World War II with creativity. Til the Sun Goes Down carries a similar essence of quiet perseverance of a small town or village. The heart gushing with the willpower of graceful pushback, as they face tough change knocking at their door.

The clear lyrics and marching-like rhythm in the background mirror the steadiness of the journey. “There’s more than a lifetime to the end of the road. That’s why we never left this town. But now there’s a path to the stars in the sky. So wait till the Sun Goes Down.” Songwriters Steve Rezillo and Julie Kim Hartshorne search for hope in their words, even welcoming the night with open arms.

Til the Sun Goes Down almost paints a picture of a quiet, quaint hamlet bathed in twilight. The song stands rich with emotion and lyrical depth, weaving timeless themes of hope, community, and endurance into its sound. At the heart of the Julie July Band, fronting the ensemble is Julie July (vocals), Steve Rezillo (lead guitar), Dik Cadbury (bass), Mick Candler (drums), and Carol Lee Sampson (keyboards), each adding their own touch of magic. Completing the ensemble, Caley Groves’s acoustic guitar dances with a Latin flair and free-spirited jazz energy. Follow their journey on Instagram.
