‘Raindance’ by Odelet Feels Like a Woman in Conversation With Her Soul

I repeat, ‘Raindance’ by Odelet is like listening to the most intimate conversations of a woman with her soul. Odelet is known for her intricate genre-blending ingenuity. Her music fuses into a surreal composition of jazz, R&B, hip-hop, neo-soul, and ambient. Vocal dexterity mirroring the Adhan (azan), her voice carries the sweetness of the call to prayer in Islam, like a yearning to be heard by the beloved. ‘Raindance’ is a compilation of ten songs that feel like the music has been crafted from the untamed inner dialogues, which is often the flow in our minds.

Bayou introduces a fresh, inviting beat, which makes you want to tiptoe onto the dance floor and explore how the body feels, absorbing each ting of the keys and Odelet’s voice. Think It Over is beautiful in a 360-degree manner, and so is Wake Up Call. This 30-minute compilation lingers long after it ends, and one day I would love to experience it live.

Odelet released the album under her own production company, Everlasting Tape. They also created a companion piece, Raindance In Dub—a 1970s-inspired reimagining—in collaboration with legendary engineer Larry Crane. If you’re drawn to neo‑soul, jazz‑tinged R&B, or artful ambient pop with emotional heft, Raindance is essential listening. The longer you stay with it, it’s mysteries unfold more profoundly,
