‘Fruit and Flowers’ by Elieau is a celebration of all the layered meanings that make up Life, with and without fun. The album name ‘Fruit and Flowers’ very expertly carries the sweetness and fragility of life’s moments. Elieau presents this lush foliage of 13 songs, symbolically echoing nature’s 13 cycles of the moon. It makes the entire creative process feel deeply aligned and intentional.
What Cries and Takeaway sings about is presumably the reason behind the coming together of this entire album. “It’s a circus, it’s a storm, it’s a symphony wild… It’s loud, it’s love, it’s perfectly us.” The song is a beautiful compilation of very intimate moments from the artist’s life as a new mother and a new coparent. The track is life’s chaos and cacophony, managed by music. When there’s love and compatibility, care and sensitivity follow along with a bundle of creative energy, and that’s what Cries and Takeaway is all about.

“I’m the bitter and you’re the sweet. But in equal parts, we are complete.” One of my favourite tracks on the list, Equal Parts, heads directly to the most romantic playlist. You have to really listen to appreciate this song about the balance. The voice, the poetry, and the music that Equal Parts so emaculately, effortlessly brings to the table. Next song, The Table ferries a fervour; it’s an anthem for those who have been cast aside, not seen, and not heard.
The album title’s namesake is a song about commitment, patience, and the kind of care that blooms into Fruits and Flowers, in other words, love. “Not every love is blind, some are made of gentle skies.” Divas That Time and Years Take Flight are songs of sweet reminiscence. While Where Dragons Dwell is a sharp reminder of the inner-fire pit of self-love that kindles every other fire.

“It’s not easy being whole, being true, when yesterday still lives in you.” All the songs in this album are worded with painful honesty about life, and that makes it so perfect. Rounded at the edges by symphony, Letters Never Sent is by far the most intense and personal number. The Hero’s story comes around with Found My Way and Aiming High as a gift to the world, while honouring the love that came after all the imperfections, is Little White Dove. Winding up is Elliot’s Lullaby that transcends the past into the future, but with more wisdom and less trauma. Lastly, My Island brings this exciting ship to its port.
Elieau’s Fruits and Flowers carried me into a Disney fairytale musical. I truly believe it could be adapted into one someday. Cheers to the entire team of creatives, with its silky vocals, rich acoustic music, and stellar productions, the album deserves a much wider fan base. Go listen and share some love to Fruits and Flowers, available on music streaming platforms.
