Chords of Indigo Releases an Upbeat Indie Rock ‘The Thread’ that Redeems Hope

The Thread by Manchester-based Chords of Indigo is an alluring indie rock number. Chords of Indigo, aka Lee Hornsby, the multitalented composer, lyricist, and producer, is on a roll this year. With an EP coming out soon, The Thread is the third single to be out in the last two months. The song is on an emotionally high-intensity tangent, intertwining narratives of passion-stricken lovers. Hornsby’s music is not only raw, but it is palpable in the manner he presents his composition.

There’s a texture of tactility in his voice as he treads between the fragility of despondence and hope. Here’s this line, “I dragged you here under. Now you’re pulling me back to life,” that is so full of faith. Yet in the very next, the shadows have overtaken him, “A trick or a blunder, or just a moment in time,” overshadows that light of hope, in a matter of a moment. The lyrics are hauntingly personal, as they weave an intimate story of love, loss, ego death, self-awareness, illumination, and hope. And my favourite lines are, “Retrace your steps in this barren land. Steady your breath, and just hold my hand.” It is this painful desperation, along with the loving disposition of his words, that wins the heart and simply wishes to be held. And that’s just how he sings it.

The Thread feels like it is at a centre-point of the EP that began with The Evil, then Cleave. Among all the pain, trauma, and chaos of this life, this song is in search of some salvation. Whether the story finds a good grounding, a strong, deep root of hope, or not is now to be awaited. Evelyn and The Evil, the entire EP is scheduled to be released on the 20th of September, 2025, and is now much-waited-on. Stay updated on Chords of Indigo’s Instagram page.
