My Twisted Heart – idontneedyou | Introspective

My Twisted Heart is a solo project based in Ireland. However the artist behind the project, Po Ki Ching is a Hong Kong national. His music explores the realm of Hip Hop and R&B. From a rather young age, Ching developed a keen sense of sound through playing and singing covers. Ching uses his cultural background as inspiration for some of his music. Specifically when he raps about social injustice.

idontneedyou is the latest musical export from this brilliant alternative Hip Hop artist. Dealing with relationships and injustices, the track takes a lot of inspiration from the personal life of My Twisted Heart. The track relies heavily on Electronica which I find really interesting. I love the groove and beat of this track. The percussive effect from the synth and bass really engrosses the listener. The guitar sample makes me reminiscent of artists like Lil peep, but the sound is completely different. The track plays over these rusty sounding strings which, I think, adds so much character. The vocals on this track are so well done. I enjoy the harmonies that create this extra space for the vocal mix to cut through.

All in all, this track has everything you’d expect from an Alternative Hip Hop track. The beats are intense, the guitar sample, rusty; the synth just adding that glazing to cover it all up while the vocals, with a little quantisation, just work so well. My Twisted Heart is definitely an artist that you should keep an eye out for.
