Audiodrome Becomes First Plant to Press Solar Powered Vinyls

Demand for Vinyl Records has spiked in recent times, generating almost a billion-dollar market each year since 2020. But production of Vinyl is a costly, complicated and challenging procedure, along with being extremely harmful for the planet. Two music enthusiasts and creative entrepreneurs have made an enormous effort towards making vinyl eco-friendly, Dave Newell and Betsy Bemis. Revealing this mega news along with Earth Day celebrations was the inauguration of Audiodrome Record Pressing.

“Creativity is an essential part of our humanity and there is something about vinyl records that people find meaningful,” says Bemis. The experience that vinyl records create between the artist and the listener is way too unique. No other format gives that satisfaction. But vinyl records are made of PVC (polyvinyl chloride). PVC is a petroleum-based plastic which is not only detrimental to the environment but is also very expensive. Audiodrome wishes to bridge the gap between a cherished past and a safe future. Their procedure counters the negative environmental impact of pressing vinyl.

Audiodrome Sustainable Practices

Audiodrome is harnessing a fully solar-powered facility with steamless record presses featuring closed-loop chiller systems. There is no burning of fossil fuels, no boiler chemicals or runoff, and minimal water usage. The company is also making use of recycled PVC to make new records, as well as offering a “Bio-Vinyl” option. Even for the exterior packaging Audiodrome is using alternatives to shrink wrap or polybags. The new paper packages in use are 100% recyclable and biodegradable paper certified green by forest service management organizations. The factory is also recycling and reusing shipping materials such as cardboard, pallets and packing materials, along with 51% sugarcane shrink wrap.

Empowering Independent Artists

Nestled in Gainesville, Florida, Audiodrome Record Pressing operates as the first fully solar-powered vinyl pressing plant in the United States. This cutting-edge facility connects sustainability and innovation within the music industry. A very noble reason why Founder Newell started Audiodrome was to find an opportunity to work with the independent artists from all over and help them bring their projects to life.

“It can be a daunting task as an artist to get your product out into the world; not only do you have to get your music recorded, but then you need to navigate mastering, artwork, retail, and a whole host of other considerations. A lot of bands and artists don’t even know where to start. On top of that, it can be hard to get smaller runs of records pressed,” Newell explains. Which is why Audidrome is committed to make the whole process an easy, transparent, and enjoyable experience, prioritizing independent customers and their projects.

In conclusion, Audiodrome’s inauguration is the dawning of a new era of responsible vinyl production. An urgent need where creativity converges with sustainability towards a harmonious future for the music industry and our planet’s thriving.
