Talia Grace Takes You on a Melancholy Yet Hopeful Journey with Her New Pop EP “From Under You”

Talia Grace, a native of Los Angeles, California, discovered her musical talents at the age of seven in a home filled with music. Starting with piano lessons, she began performing with her siblings by the age of nine. By 12, Talia had developed a love for writing and recording music. Influenced by artists like Copeland, Bon Iver, Noah Gundersen, and Phoebe Bridgers, her music explores themes of sadness, spirituality, and the human experience. Talia hopes her art resonates with and connects to her listeners.

Talia Grace has released a new EP, “From Under You,” with four songs.

The EP opens with the soulful “The Girl Before The Girl.” This song starts with a soulful piano melody that tugs at your heartstrings. Talia’s voice enters, soft yet powerful, singing about feelings of not being someone’s first choice and wanting more than to be a backup plan. Her vocals are beautiful and truly capture the emotions of pining for someone who doesn’t treat you with the same affection. Musically, the piano really sets a melancholy mood, while Talia’s performance is absolutely stellar.  Underneath the vocals, a gentle heartbeat rhythm is mixed in to enhance the intimacy and melancholy of the lyrics.

“Lavender Latte” takes the dreamy vibe established on the first track and elevates it even further. A slightly upbeat piano line gives the song some forward momentum while retaining an ethereal quality. Talia’s vocals are delivered with exquisite nuance, portraying both longing and pain with stunning emotional vulnerability. As the arrangement grows in intensity with increased instrumentation, Talia’s vocals reach breathtaking heights. She paints vivid pictures with lyrics like “You slipped so softly through my fingers/you look like spring when you lie.” The dreaminess is maximal yet never loses its intimate tone. This is a gorgeously crafted pop ballad where every element enhances the bittersweet emotions at its core.

“Smoke” by Talia Grace is a deeply impactful track that effectively conveys difficult emotions. The slow, sparse arrangement of piano and strings allows Talia’s raw vocals to take center stage. She sings with anguish and vulnerability, drawing the listener in to share her pain.

The lyrics directly addressing her abuser imbue the song with an added layer of courage and strength. To openly confront such a traumatic experience through art takes incredible bravery. Phrases like “I can’t get out from under you” clearly illustrate feelings of helplessness. Talia’s commanding yet tender vocals are perfectly suited to bring these difficult memories to the surface. The eerie ending leaves an unsettled feeling, much like how abuse can linger and affect someone long after the events.

Talia Grace taps into complex emotions on “Greedy Reminders,” the closing track of her new EP. With sparse yet resonant instrumentation and vulnerable vocals, she reflects on past relationships and the lessons of both love and loss. While acknowledging life’s difficulties, Talia’s delivery also conveys acceptance and a sense of moving forward. She seems to have gained perspective from her experiences, as indicated in the thoughtful melody and lyrics. The arrangement elegantly complements Talia’s introspective performance. Subtle layers of sound, including gentle piano, create a nostalgic yet hopeful mood. It’s a poignant musical moment that leaves you with an uplifting parting message about growth through life’s ups and downs.
