Girl Gang Blackpink Set Fire to the Coachella Stage Becoming the First K-Pop Headliner at the Prestigious Festival

On Saturday, Blackpink became the first-ever girl group to headline Coachella and they graced the main stage with a performance that their fans will surely be referencing for years to come. Their 18-track setlist included their signature hits like “Pink Venom”“Whistle” and “Shut Down” with solo performances from Jennie, Jisoo, Rose, and Lisa as well. The production value of the performance upgraded what could have been simply a show into a full-blown spectacle with elements like overhead drones, fireworks, and meticulously crafted choreography. For anyone who previously attended the group’s Born Pink World Tour last year, it was easy to see how Coachella was an instant game-changer for how Blackpink wanted to be perceived by Western audiences. Blackpink aren’t here to be a blip in the K-pop machine.

The four members of Blackpink — Jennie Kim, Jisoo, Lisa, and Rosé — were larger than life, exuding infinite pop star charisma and proving without a doubt they deserved top billing; they are the first Korean band to headline Coachella. Unlike Bad Bunny’s set, which was plagued by technical difficulties, BLACKPINK’s was flawless. Each choreographed dance move landed effortlessly, and their backing band was also a highlight. The band barely appeared on the video screens except for a glowing acknowledgement towards the end of the set, but their presence gave the set the energy of a live-wire rock show.

The K-pop girl group returned to the music festival four years after their debut visit to make history once more. This time, they performed new songs and solo performances, demonstrating that each member of Blackpink is a force to be reckoned with in their own way.

Rose told the crowd during their performance: “So a let me start off with, four years ago we were invited to perform here for you at Coachella at the Sahara tent and that made a mark in all of our hearts. I must say, this is a dream come true a the reason all four of us are here is because of you.”

Jennie added: “We are so so happy to be back here. “It’s crazy within the four years we made it from Sahara to main stage a we love you, Coachella.”
