Listening to ‘Quarantined senses’ by songwriter, creative artist, and singer Claudia Tomàs feels like listening to one’s ghostly mirror. Since the mind and body-altering dis-ease, it seems that the world from the outside has compromised with what has been lost. But from the inside, we all feel the disconnect. This song by Claudia is a reverberation of those times and its reflection on our reality today. We have felt numbness in our senses since the days that were quarantine, despite the Earth turning many moons.

Claudia Tomàs reminds me of one of my beloved artists, the Late Lhasa de Sela, but marks a definite niche in her style. She was born to Spanish vocalist, guitarist, and composer Damià Tomàs, and had started to write songs & sing in a self-taught way from a very young age. Claudia recorded her first self-edited EP, “Yearnings of Modern Life”, in February 2025 and released it in May. The album explores the human yearnings of contemporary life, and ‘Quarantined senses’ is the first of the five songs exemplifying the haunting honesty of this modern world. The track stands apart with its minimalist concoction of instruments intertwining with Claudia’s surreal voice and the starkly emotionally heavy poetry.

‘Quarantined senses’ does not offer resolution; there is no grand crescendo. It is just the bare truth, and that slashes a deep cut of awareness. The pianist Gori Matas deserves a special mention for instilling magic in a grief-heavy piece. The track was recorded live at Alquimia Records in Palma, Spain, along with musicians Miquel Muntaner on the guitar, Marco Lohokari on double bass, and Teo Salvà on drums.
