A 2009 tête-à-tête in Paris between two zealous French artists, Jarl Myselfson and Nordag, led to the creation of the electro-rock band Myselfson. They released their debut full-length album, Memory Park, in March 2018, which received glowing reviews. Myselfson recently released their second album ‘Resistance’ this June, a project they began working on in 2021. The album features a dozen songs, including the mystically broody, power-packed music video for ‘Rain and Pain’, along with a few previously unreleased songs.
The Prelude offers a soft landing into the ethically driven 12-song musical journey titled ‘Resistance’. It is one of the most beautiful melodies that will captivate the listener and sway them into a mood one wouldn’t expect from an electro-rock band. The Prelude is a 2-minute and 20-second piece of pure bliss rendered through gentle piano keys.

The famous Rain and Pain appears twice on this album, a Club Version by Sasha Mate and an Extended Version by Waiting For Words’ The first is an electronic echo rendition with video game-like, club-tempo grid woven into its fabric, while the Waiting For Words version runs 3 minutes longer, slightly slower, and expands on the introductional intricacies. Resistance, the namesake track, is a stupendous work of creativity. The lyrics act like truth serum, deeply empowering, while the alternating rhythms, tonal shifts, and vocal styles make this track truly eye-opening.
To Love Again and By Your Side carry the gentle, emotional touch of an electronic Ballad. The electronic elements blend seamlessly with live bass and drums. A sign of a shift, from the machinical to the human, from detachment to love again. The lyrics tell a powerful story of emerging from a dark tunnel into the light. By Your Side dives deeper into the pulse of real life, moving further away from resistance and the inner conflicts with the Self.

Das Ist Unsere Welt, which translates to This is our World, is musically omnipresent on the list. The track stands out for the heavy, passionate vocals, and though I don’t understand German, the pulse of the song unmistakably conveys a message of reclaiming life and nature from those who are destroying it. And suddenly, one finds oneself at the doorstep of the warmest song of the album, Home, Sweet Home. Here, I must mention the lead singer’s vocal accent; his French tongue singing English songs makes this entire journey sound so euphonic, the tracks that inch toward love, light, life, and hope.
If you are on a multi-genre experimental trip, Resistance by Myselfson is the perfect one to explore this season. It is the closing song of the album, Freeman, which is perhaps a cinematically genius soundtrack and might blow your mind. Listen to Freeman with an open heart, and don’t forget to share your love for their music, now streaming on all platforms.
