Joe Bygraves dives into heartbreak through “Healing”

Joe Bygraves is a young singer-songwriter from Bedfordshire, UK who has been releasing his own music since 2017. He self-admittedly takes inspiration from acts like Ed Sheeran and Coldplay and creates Pop blended, string heavy tracks. His latest single “Healing” explores the after-effects of heartbreak with a melodic touch.

The vocal performance of Joe Bygraves in “Healing” is impressive. It is the star of the track reminding me of the signature UK singer-songwriter heard from artists like Niall Horan. The instrumentation is kept soft true to singer-songwriter fashion and highlights his voice which is melancholic, strong and deep. The keys are sombre initially and an ambient sound effect that intensifies in the second verse adds an angelic effect to the track. The Pop element of the track is most evident in the percussion that kicks in during the second verse and keeps tempo. The melody is simple, catchy and stays with you at the end of the song.

Lyrically, “Healing” is about heart-break and what one experiences after it. Joe Bygraves describes in vivid detail the feelings he has in response to rejection and what losing someone can put you through psychologically. He speaks about missing someone yet resisting the urge to reach out; about hope and progressing slowly towards a time when he “will be alright”; about wondering what the other person is going through and how to forget it all. His songwriting is vulnerable and grows on you.

If you are looking to find art that reflects your experience of the loss of love or a song you can relate to when grieving love, I highly recommend giving “Healing” by Joe Bygraves a ear!
