Meet Stephan Nance, the creative force behind Sparkbird, based in Portland, Oregon. Stephan, a non-binary queer singer-songwriter, shares their life with their partner Adam and two parrots named Georgie and Fred. Currently working on a new album and a young adult novel, Stephan’s music has garnered attention from various platforms, including Obscure Sound, Good Music Radar, and the National Audubon Society. They are not only a Lambda Literary Fellow and Tin House YA alum but also a 2023 Oregon Literary Fellow, and We Need Diverse Books mentee. Sparkbird has enchanted audiences globally, with tours spanning Japan, the UK, Poland, Denmark, Sweden, Finland, Russia, and Italy, spreading warmth through their performances.

As Christmas approaches, the warmth of the music is sure to bring joy. The song kicks off with Sparkbird’s soothing vocals accompanied by minimal music, gradually building up.
The use of horns, synths, and lively beats is so engaging that you can’t help but tap your feet to the beat. I particularly loved the nostalgic vibe, feeling like I was strolling through a bright day where everything was pleasant. The flute work stood out as absolutely gorgeous and one of the highlights for me, perfectly accentuating the song’s melodic aspect. The song reaches its climax with dreamy synths, horns reaching a dramatic peak, and intense yet beautiful vocal work, creating a phenomenal moment.
