Turning Sorrows into Songs, ‘Winter Came’ is a Fairytale Ballad by Lydia Fairhall

Something or someone has passed, moved ahead to another realm, into another cycle, and perhaps into another form. Lydia Fairhall has written the most beautiful ballad, but in rewind. Winter Came and then went away, leaving her with the wisdom of life. Now, Lydia begins to share her story from where she finds herself, in the spring that has arrived in her life. “With my hands in the dirt this time, I found what was truly mine, A life that I can hold”. She walks her listeners back through the realisations that emerged when Winter Came. From “the grey gum has lost its limb..”, to the heartbreak of “I shouldn’t have waited another hour, let alone a year. But I had time. You didn’t . Now that’s clear”.

Singer-songwriter Lydia Fairhall’s Winter Came is her expression of gratitude towards life, to the universe, and our creator. It honours the love that creates both the darkness and the light, reminding us that we, as humans, are here to learn, grow, and evolve. Lydia ends her prayer-like ballad with “Your love is alive. That is enough.” Such deep gratefulness only arrives from deeper acceptance, trust, and faith. Her voice is angelic, and she sings like a messiah of light.

Winter Came is a soft indie-folk, strings-based piece that leaves a strong imprint on the listener. A special mention goes to the glorious YouTube video accompanying the song. It may sound wildly mystical, but the visuals feel as though they belong to the mythical lands of Lemuria, the root race of human ancestors, whose memories slip through us like sand in the palm.
