It’s rare to come across an EP that feels so wholesome. Destined to Fail, with just three songs, has an air of completion and is emotionally rich. Violet Love, also known as Autumn Granados, takes us on a journey from a painful past into a more hopeful present. The EP feels like traversing through the dark alleys of her life’s trauma towards the end of the tunnel, a place where there’s love and light. While digging around online, I learned that the name Granados has Celtic roots and also means “pomegranate” in Spanish. This might seem unrelated, but I bring it up because I believe everything in life is connected; our history, who we are now, and who we’re becoming.
Violet Love describes this project as a reflection of life, shared openly through lyrics and sound. To me, that makes her a pomegranate, tough on the outside, complex inside, but filled with sweetness. Each track on the EP is like peeling away the layers of that fruit, revealing something tender and real. I find Destined to Fail quite contradictory to its name, perhaps an irony that Violet meant it to be. She transmutes pain into the pleasure of the music. And it’s not just music, it’s a quiet exploration, not of lands like the Celtic nomads once did, but of the inner self. Untangling the nature within and creating a nature, a world that’ll mirror the sweetness outside.

Serpent initiates with the line, “I’m breathing the loss of myself”, a symbolic representation of the kundalini. The Hindu mythological serpent that lies at the bottom of the spine and rises coiling up the spine to reach the crown of the head. A journey from hell towards heaven. A process of elimination, healing, and awakening to the Self that is destined by losing the Self that was fated. Serpent sounds cryptic and intriguing. Every line in the song is a lived experience, and Violet sings with a voice that conveys the pain and transports the listeners to their own stories, raising goosebumps.
Keeping skeletons in the cupboard never had a more direct applicability and acceptance. The second track, Apple is a song of self-actualisation. This song is a purging of the soul. By mid, it reaches the peak, and multi-talented, multi-instrumentalist Violet releases her rage through breathtaking strumming and drumming. The music here diverts, like randomly taking a diversion from the past, fated route towards self-created destiny. This is an artist who is destined not only to win but to be a trailblazer. And it’ll be my wish to listen to her music Live someday.
With Artist, Violet lets go of all that no longer belongs on her path. The slow finger-picking beginning to the song eases up the lament she has worded out of her wounds. Her vulnerability reaches the pinnacle in this song, which irrevocably also makes her an Artist. One who paints her miseries into mesmerizing music. One who can weave strings of varied sounds, threads of emotions into a rhythm that culminates in the last minute of Artist, reaching a crescendo as an artist, as Violet does. I’m in complete awe and wide awake!
